Blizzard Bag #1

Below are the assignments for your child to complete for the Blizzard Bag #1 project.

As per board policy, students are permitted 2 weeks to complete these activities. Please let me know if you have any problems I am always here to help you!  This is new for me as well so I'm sure there will be some questions... Please let me know!

Here is a checklist of the activities your child needs to complete. Please print and mark off those completed.  Turn this in along with any seperate assignments when your child has completed all the tasks.

Here is a detailed description of each task to be completed:

Task #1:
Writing: Watch "The Snowy Day" being read to you at http://youtu.be/AEmBTYc7Ivo . Think about what you need to do to get ready to go outside and play in the snow. Write at least 3 sentences describing how to get ready to go play in the snow. Use words like 'first, next, and then.' Be sure to start with a capital letter and end with punctuation.  You may use any paper you have at home. If you'd like writing paper here is a link to kindergarten writing paper: Writing paper!

Task #2:
Math: Complete these 3 math problems. You can print these math problems or you can use paper from home to complete. Draw a picture for each problem. Then write a number sentence for each problem (3+3=6). Write your answer on the line.
Click here for the math problems!

Task #3:
Math: Practice counting to 100.  You can use the video here for help or added fun!
Click here for the Counting video!

Task #4:
Reading and Phonics: Go here to read at least 2 stories online and play phonics games.  There are 15 stories on this page along with 2-4 games for each story.  The more challenging stories are at the bottom while the more basic stories are at the top.  Have your child choose at least 2 stories and complete the activities that go with each story.

Your poster should include a describing word for each sense.

Great websites for kindergarten kids!

Here are some great websites that we use in the classroom to review and extend our learning.

The kids also love taking brain breaks to these songs!

Many students also love Starfall , which is a free website that teaches letters, sounds, sight words, and reading skills.

Let me know which ones your child likes best!

1st Day Fun!

We had a wonderful 1st Day of Kindergarten! The students read about Chester from The Kissing Hand.  He was a little nervous to go to school and his mom gave him a special reminder to keep with him always.  We learned some of our classroom and school rules.  We made a first day certificate and got to use our new supplies.  We had lunch and recess (always a favorite!).  We also use Magic Playdough to see if we would have a great year.  Luckily, all of our playdough contained a new color so we were very excited.  We went to Art for the first time and met Miss Stegner.  Since we had such a great day we had special Kissing Hand cookies to eat before we got on the bus to go home.  What a busy day!  There will be many more to come!

September Scholastic Book Orders!

Scholastic Book Ordering Information

Web address: scholastic.com/bookclubs
Class Activation Code: GP884
Due: September 11
**Let me know if these are gifts and we can arrange a pick-up!
Use the order form in the flyer your child will bring home and return it to me with your payment by  September 11! Checks can be made out to "Scholastic".

Or, make it easy and send me your order online! The great thing with ‘online’ is that we get even more free books when you order online!!!!  You will also have access to books I recommend  and also books on our class wish list!  You're able to purchase them there if you'd like to donate to our classroom library.

Go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and log in using your user name and password.

If it’s your first time ordering online, use the Class Activation Code shown above to get started.
  • SIGN UP at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs <http://www.scholastic.com/bookclubs> . On the parent page, click the “Don’thave a user name or password?“ link, then register for your own user name and password. When prompted, enter the one-time Class Activation Code shown above. This code ensures that your order is sent to me.
  • SELECT the books you’d like to order—choose from thousands of titles—many more than in our monthly flyers.
  • SEND your order to me online by the due date and your child’s books will be delivered directly to my classroom.

  • Best of all, we earn a FREE book for the classroom library every time a parent places an order online.

The month of September is a special month for Scholastic. If we have a class order of $300 we will receive 10,000 bonus points! My goal this year is to improve our classroom library and this will be a HUGE help! Feel free to share this info with grandparents, aunts, and friends!
    Thank you!
